Assisi short stay home is one of its first short stay home in kerala for people who are suffering from various addicitons and mental health issues. The institution is run by capuchin friars belonging to St Thomas capuchin province kerala, in collaboration with secular Franciscan order of Thrissur Archdiocese
Humble beginnings
In the last quarter of 20th century when people suffering from leprosy where considered as a menace to the society, and these poor people had very few means to sustain themselves, capuchin friars along with the SFO members decided to rehabilitate them in a dignified manner, The land was procured towards the west side of wadakkancherry railway station. It was a desolate place with no access to the vehicles, sharing one of its boundaries with forest area.
Small huts were erected along with a dispensary and IP ward for the leprosy patients. Initially there were 42 leper families, friars had build a play ground auditorium for their recreation activities.
